H ello, my name is Ian Bleys, I became involved with Massage therapy as a result of my own experiences with managing a serious lower back problem nearly 20 years ago. As a result, my lifestyle and exercise pattens had to alter. I began to practise the theory and belief in the natural healing capabilities of the body and mind. "I became very interested, well read and knowledgeable about the principles and variances associated with alternative styles of natural remedies and treatments. The learning curve is this field is very illuminating. My knowledge base and Masseur skills have been formalised with the Internationally recognised Brandon Raynor School of Natural Therapies: "I trade as The Massage Service, i.e. TMS and I am a member of the International Natural Therapists Association, i.e. INTA. This entity has a Global presence and further information about this organisation can be obtained from visiting their Website linked above and at other various places throughout this Website. It is an organisation that gives all its members a support forum that fosters discussion and practise issues that concern individual members. Types of Massage offered:TMS offers a unique style of massage treatment. TMS uses a combination of Remedial, (traditional and Kahuna style), in combination with some challenging Thai stretches and Shiatsu massage techniques as a base for all treatments. Specific clients needs are meet as required, but for the most part, once clients have experienced a TMSmassage they are very appreciative and surprised. Surprised, mainly by the fact that the client realises that their body can go through such depth of extremes. They have just experienced a unique body workout. TMS specialises in Lower Back, hips, necks, shoulders and mobility issues. Mr Bleys has suffered with lower back issues for 20 years, in fact it was the reason he became involved with massage therapy. He found it the only real long term solution in managing his own lower back issue. What you can expect from a Standard TMS Treatment:This standard service offers a total body massage. Your state of undress is completely up to you, but the minimum is underwear. We use oils that do stain clothing and we do everything possible to minimise this oil staining. You will be covered at all times and if you feel uncomfortable at any stage during the massage please let the masseur know. We start with you positioned face down with a towel covering your body. We do a little warm up procedure from head to toe and this also gives the masseuse a bit of a feel for some muscle tightness and areas that may need some special care and attention. We then expose your shoulder to buttocks area, using the towel to prevent oil from staining your underwear. If you are wearing a bra, it will be unclipped at this point to allow full access to your lower back through to your neck. Once again, if you do wear your bra, make it an old one because it will be unavoidable to not stain the bra material. During the massage there will always be tight spots that need to be worked on for longer periods as we work through the various muscle levels. There is always some discomfort when working these tight spots and the masseur will advise you about your breathing to help ease the discomfort. The masseuse will spend between 15-20 mins working your torso, upper gluts, arms, shoulders and neck. The masseuse then moves to your legs, the towel is used to cover your back area. Each leg is worked from ankle to hip region. We then turn you onto your sides to work the lower back areas that become more exposed when on your side. Some very important trigger release points are positioned just under the sacrum and in this position, this area is more assessable. This takes another 15-20 mins depending on issues that may present themselves. Both sides are done before we move you onto your back. From here we work the quads and then do some really great thai style stretches that work the lower back, hamstrings, calves, quads, and all the muscle groupings throughout the pelvic region. Depending of your level of muscle tone and fitness, these stretches are modified to suit. You will feel like you have been put through the wringer when there done, but you will feel instant relief and tension release. We then spend the balance of the session working your neck and shoulders from the face up position. There are always issues found in this position and we will do a number of neck stretches and work the C section vertebra extensively. With time permitting, we generally end the session with a facial massage using various shiatsu techniques. You are then wrapped and "palmed' down, another shiatsu technique that gives you a sense of wellbeing, warmth and security. You are then left for 3-5 mins to completely relax and let your body feel the benefit of the massage. Due to the toxin release that occurs during the massage you are assisted to get up so as to prevent you falling off the table in the event you suffer a little bit of vertigo or dizziness. This is a normal feeling after a massage as the toxin released during the massage into the blood stream has varying effects on different people. We give you a nice cool drink that is very refreshing and then you are left to towel yourself down for any excess oil, dress and ready yourself. We have a discussion on how you feel, it is very important that you are aware that after a massage it is quite normal that your reflexes are not quite back to normal. So, any driving you might be going to do, please go for a 5-10 min walk prior to driving. I know that you will feel a little sore over the next day or so, but by the 4-5 day you will feel really energised and refreshed. This is the peak period after a massage and lasts varying periods for different clients. It is a great feeling. Your regular massage should be timed so that it happens just prior to you starting to feel like you need another massage. This is a trial and error period for everybody as you discover things about your body that you never knew. Generally for those having a massage for the first time, it will take 3 massages within a month or so to really get you on a path where your body can deal with your toxicity levels. A client who has massages regularly, knows this period and it varies depending on your exercise pattens, the type of work you do, and whether your have specific injuries you are recovering from. Your masseuse can be very helpful in this area as he uses his experience to advise you when you might be due to have another massage. Fees and Services Available:(updated 1/1/2008)
TMS can offer a varied range of treatments and services. We treat any type of muscle related injury with an extensive range of different massage style and technique. Hands, knuckles, wrists, forearms, elbows, knees, feet, heels are some of the body appendages we use in performing the massage. We also include some extreme Thai stretches, Shiatsu pressure and Kahuna style strokes are also used. Reflexology and Aromatherapy are also practised. To supplement the massage we can sometimes use additional devices where necessary. i.e. futon, 10's machines, ice/heat packs etc. The Fee structure as outlined above is further explained here. The nominal fee of $40 for a 30 min massage covers immediate and pressing injury type appointments that can be dealt with in a shorter time frame. Suits extreme athletes who require individual muscle groups to be worked on after a week or so of heavy training. The $65 fee is for the Full Body Massage which usually lasts around 60 mins. This massage allows for a much wider range of issues and injuries to be dealt with and offers more intense treatments for connective muscle groups. This massage is also available for relaxation type sessions. The $100 fee is for a massage that can be anything you want. What is offered is and extensive and varied approach to each and every muscle group that will leave you completely relaxed and devoid of all muscle tension and stress. We just go a bit overboard in the spoiling of you and treat each muscle group with a little more care and attention. All new clients are levied a $15 new client fee. This covers quite a bit of preliminary work prior to the massage beginning commenced. The first time client is asked to complete a confidential and comprehensive information document. This document provides the masseur with a comprehensive insight to what physical issues can be expected when you go to the table. The document asks about past bone breaks/dislocations and other physical issues. It also asks about constant trouble spots, covers any other current issues that may be the reason you have made the appointment in the first place. It also covers some lifestyle questions, emotional issues that might be creating/impacting on muscle and organ tension. To see a copy of this document click here. If any of the questions appear intrusive, you do not have to respond. This information is purely used to assist the masseur in gaining knowledge about issues that could be causing your injuries. All information is held in the strictest confidence. Discounts are offered to all concession card holders and to clients who want to pay for 3 or more massages in advance. Also, any holder of a concession card, i.e. Health care Card, Disability Card, Pension Card or any other type of Government issued concession card, is entitled to a $5 discount off the Standard Service fee. In matters that relate to financial hardship, I sometimes agree to a time payment plan if the client needs a number of visits to deal with a pressing issue. This is rare and please do not ask unless it is a genuine problem. You will spoil this service if you take advantage of the proprietor. Corporate Massage:TMS provides a specialised Corporate service. There are 2 types of Corporate Contracted services offered: Construction Employers:Employers can contract TMS to provide all their employees with a maintenance schedule program that is assured to give their employees a resource to assist and treat ongoing work related injuries. The Employer will also gain from an employee base that will require less days off through work related injury and be more productive in their work environment. The Building industry is awash with trades employees who are constantly battling muscle fatigue and RSI type injuries. A number of my existing clients are all over 35 and they have been working the building game all their lives. They had been struggling to meet the day to day requirements of their job. They have found that massage is the best way for them to stay on top of their injuries. A regular full remedial massage every month or when injury occurs, will prolong your working life and make you more productive to your employer/contractor. Use the E-Mail link Here to E-Mail the TMS and obtain further information: TMS will treat those small niggling injuries before they become bigger issues. In the long term, employees who have regular massage treatments will prolong their active working lifespan. The biggest benefit is that the contract is so worded and constructed that the expenditure becomes a tax deductible expense for both employer and employee. The Employer can make their own arrangements regarding what percentage of the treatment costs they want to cover. Some discounts are available with this type of contract servicing and sometimes the length of massage can vary depending on employee injury or maintenance requirements. This employee benefit is completely TAX FREE to the employer and employee. A copy of the Tax Dept ruling on expenses relating to Remedial Massage is reproduced below: Tax Ruling:ATO Interpretative Decision FOI status: may be released CAUTION: This record of an ATO decision may not include a complete statement of all facts in summarising the application of the relevant provision of the law to complex circumstances. Issue: Is the taxpayer entitled to a deduction under section 8-1 of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997 (ITAA 1997) for the costs of reimbursing an employee for remedial "massage" expenses? Decision: Facts: Reasons for decision: The taxpayer reimburses expenses the employee incurs for remedial massages. The massages provide pain relief to the employee to allow them to continue working. The expenses have the essential character of an income producing expense. The expenses are incidental and relevant to the income producing activity and as such are deductible under section 8-1 of the ITAA 1997. Date of decision: 5 November 2001 Other Employers and Employees:Other Employers/Employees can also contract TMS to arrange an appointment to discuss their specific needs. TMS can visit your place of employ/work and give participating staff a 30 minute massage. The employer will need to provide a room or closed off space to allow their employees to feel comfortable when receiving their massage. These massages can also be done at a desk when just working neck and shoulders. Usually, oil is used where back, legs, arms and necks are involved. If it is just tension areas in the shoulders, this can be done fully clothed.
